Pulaski High School was recently awarded a technology grant in the amount of $8,200 from the Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED).
FRED in cooperation with the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative (RTFC) created the Technology Grants for Rural Schools program to help meet the growing need for innovative technology in the classroom. The grant program, now in its ninth year, awards funds to public schools that are working to increase the use of technology to enhance the learning experience. Nsight Telservices was the local service provider that nominated Pulaski High School for this grant. Of the almost 90 applications submitted, seven schools across the nation were selected to receive funding.
“While we have a clear vision of our 21st century classroom and what we want the learning to look like, the funds are not available to do this, said Amy Uelman, Instructional Technology Coordinator for the Pulaski School District. “With school budgets declining, we have found it difficult to obtain the money to move forward in providing the technologies needed for our students. We were thrilled when Nsight Telservices passed this grant information onto us.”
Pulaski High School will be equipping one of their world language classrooms with the latest technology including a laptop and interactive whiteboard, a mounted sound system, a document camera and a set of tablet computers.
To be eligible for the grant, a public school must be located in the service area of rural telecommunications provider, complete an application and receive a letter of nomination from a local member of OPASTCO (Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies).
“Nsight Telservices is excited that to partner with Pulaski High School to enhance local education,” said Brighid Riordan, director of Public Affairs at Nsight. “Both Nsight Telservices and Cellcom have worked with the Pulaski School District for many years to help bridge the gap in our areas of technology expertise. From helping bring the Internet to the school in the early 1990’s to providing cell phones in a classroom this school year, we value the opportunity to be a part of education with technology.”
FRED is a charitable 501(c)(3) foundation that is affiliated with the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies (OPASTCO). More information about OPASTCO can be found at www.opastco.org.
