Cellcom Green Bay Marathon organizers have announced the return of the 3.1-mile Cellcom 5K run in May 2011. The 5K was replaced in 2010 with a 2.62-mile Mini-Marathon after being part of the event for 10 years.
“Last year we started the shorter distance Mini-Marathon with hopes of attracting a family audience,” said Sean Ryan, race director of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. “We were successful in doing this, but we found that the event appealed almost exclusively to families and competitive short-distance runners really missed the opportunity to run the 5K. With the return of the 5K we hope to draw the interest of both audiences.”
The Cellcom 5K race will take place on Saturday, May 14, with a start time of 8:30 a.m. The event will be chip-timed and awards will be presented to the top three men and women in each age group. Registration will open January 1.
