“Saturday Afternoon Delight” starting at Glas in November

Concert series to run through April

The “Saturday Afternoon Delight” concert series will begin at Glas, the green coffeehouse, on November 20 following the Sturgeon Bay Holiday Parade. Local musical talents will be showcased from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. November through April on the third Sunday of each month.

“’Saturday Afternoon Delight’ is exactly what the name implies – an afternoon treat of music from some favorite area musicians,” said Angela Jonas, manager of Glas. “With the great line-up we have scheduled, it will be a nice time to relax with family and friends and enjoy the music before we are once again in the midst of hectic summer months.”

The first show on November 20 will feature the Bienemann’s. Jenny and Robin Bienemann of Chicago start off the series with Jenny’s hip guitar riffs, vocal overlays and idiosyncratic pacing, and Robin’s superhuman guitar playing and classic ‘30s style voice. With edgy, sharp-witted yet surprisingly sweet original songs, the duo is animated and endearing.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

December 18 - Good Evening - Hailing from Chicago, this indie-folk band will have your fingers snapping and your toes tapping with their beautiful melodies and charisma to boot.

January 15 - Julian Hagen and Seth Martin - Hagan is a Door County living legend. He will be joined by Martin, a prolific singer/songwriter and an advocate for social justice and change. Martin hails from Portland, OR and will have you singing along in no time.

February 19 - Midwest Dilemma - fronted by Omaha's Justin Lamoureux, Midwest Dilemma is deeply rooted in history and the journey of one family to America. Their recording Timelines & Tragedies was the winner of Album of the Year at Omaha Entertainment Awards.

March 19 - Jeanne Kuhns and Deborah Hadraba - Kuhns, Door County's pride and joy will open for Hadraba, an esoteric, thought-provoking singer/songwriter. This will be an afternoon of inspiration and encouragement.

April 16 - The Hollands! - The Hollands! are one part American dreamer, one part Aussie charm, a splash of gypsy love  and punk DIY ethic.

Glas coffeehouse, which opened in February 2009, serves specialty coffee drinks, smoothies, loose-leaf teas, bakery items and sandwiches. Glas winter hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. Free Wi-Fi Internet service powered by Cellcom also is available for customer use.
